The Vendôme Chapel window
Donated by Louis de Bourbon, Count of Vendôme, and family. Louis was captured and threatened with death and confiscation of his estates by his brother in 1413. Louis made a vow to Mary to raise a chapel in her honor at Chartres upon his release. Construction began in 1417. Panels 1 - 4 show the coats of arms for the families. Panels 5 - 8 show doners with St. james, St. Denis, St. Rémi and St. Louis. Panels 9 and 12 show John the Baptist and John the Evangelist watching the coronation of Mary. Panels 10 and 11 show Mary being coronated by Jesus. Panel 14 shows the crusifixion of Jesus with Mary, John and mourners watching on one side (panel 13) and the Roman centurian and soldiers on the other (panel 15). Panels 16 - 19 show people rising from the dead. Panels 20 - 26 show angels (20, 23, 24, 26), Mary (21), John the Evangelist (22) and Jesus (25).
