A Boulle style Louis 14th chest of drawers, inlaid with red tortoise shell, brass and wood. (The creation of the chest of drawers - which replaced the trunk as the preferred way of storing things - is attributed to André-Charles Boulle.)

  • The kings bedchamber - reserved for the King and distinguished guests. Note the people slept sitting up - laying down was reserved for the dead!

  • The family dining room, using the "autumn at Cheverny" dinner service, created just for this family. The fork tines are pointed down because Louis 15th grew tired of them snagging the lace on his sleves. Charles 10th put the glasses on the table as he could no longer tolerate the servants standing behind each guest eavsedropping on conversations.

  • Antlers are over 6000 years old from the cervus megaceros (ancestor of the elk), found in the Siberian ice fields around 200 years ago. They are hung at the actual height of the animal.

  • Part of the grand salon, this 17th century harp (with 8 pedals) is in perfect working condition.

  • The regulator clock (from the Louis 15th period) shows hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, phases of the moon. A clock like this was used to set all the other clocks in the château.
