On 2 August, 1830, in response to the July Revolution, Henri's grandfather, Charles 10th, abdicated, and 20 minutes later, Charles' elder son also abdicated in favor of Henri. Charles 10th urged that Henri be declared King. 7 days later, the National Assembly decreed that the throne should pass to Louis Philippe, who was declared King on 9 August, 1830.
