  • The Gallery - built in 1576. Chenonceau was used as a hospital in WW I. In WW II, the Cher was a line of demarcation between occupied and free France. French resistance smuggled people to freedom through Chenonceau. The Germans has guns pointed at Chenonceau, threatening to destroy it, but never did.
